What is it?

AnonymousRecipient let's you create free, anonymous, disposable email addresses.

You can generate as many as you want, and use them until the next day (or more, see below for details).

Why?

Because we strongly believe in privacy, anonymity and confidentiality.

How does it work?

AnonymousRecipient creates virtual mailboxes consisting of two parts: a random email address and a random mailbox name, for example :

       aaaaaaaaaa@bbbbbbbbbb.AnonymousRecipient.com https://AnonymousRecipient.com/mailbox/ccccccccccccccc/

where a, b and c are completely random.

The email address is used to receive incoming email, and the web URL is used to read them. You cannot send outgoing email at all (by design).

When are mails and mailboxes deleted?

All mailboxes are removed at midnight on the following day. This means that each mailbox exist for at least 24H and at most 48H, depending on the time of the day when it was created.

Once the timer counts down, the mailbox and all its content is automatically deleted.

It is possible to extend the duration of your mailbox, just click the Extend link on the mailbox page.

You can also manually delete your email and/or mailbox at any moment, by clicking on the relevant link.

How can I extend the duration of a mailbox?

It is possible to the extend the duration of a mailbox by donating a small amount or Ethereum :

  • To add 24 hours : 0.00081 ETH (approximatly 0.15 USD at time of writing)
  • To add 30 days : 0.01360 ETH (approximatly 2.5 USD at time of writing)
  • To extend for ever : 0.02721 ETH (approximatly 5 USD at time of writing)

The addresses to send the payment to are generated randomly. They are displayed on the mailbox home page.

Depending on the amount received, the appropriate duration (as shown above) will be added to the current remaining time.

For example, if it says that your mailbox will expire in 8 hours and 2 minutes, and you donated 0.01360 ETH (or anything between 0.01360 ETH and 0.02720 ETH actually), then the mailbox will actually expire in 30 days, 8 hours and 2 minutes and the countdown shown at the top will be updated accordingly.

Please note :

  • The amount RECEIVED is what matters. You must keep in mind that the amount you SEND may be less than the amount we RECEIVE. For example this can happen if you are using a third-party payment gateway that might take a fee.
  • It is not possible to "revive" a mailbox. When a mailbox expires, it is permanently forgotten and deleted from our system, and no amount of Bitcoin or Ethereum could change that.

Can you read my mail?

In theory, we could. In practice, we don't.

As stated previously, we strongly believe in privacy, anonymity and confidentiality, so you can be certain we won't eavesdrop on your private communication.

Furthermore, we have taken a number of steps to prevent others from doing so (ISP, hosting provider, etc.). For more details, see section "Technical Details".

But the only way to prevent everyone (including us) to read your mail, is to use end-to-end encryption (for example using GPG). If an email is sent in plain text, then some people could be able to intercept and read it.

If you are technical enough, you could also create your own AnonymousRecipient server using our open-source software (see section "Technical details").

Do you keep logs?

We don't log *anything* when we receive incoming emails, or when you read them. Thus the question wether we "keep" log is not applicable because no log is created in the first place.

As a rule of thumb, our server is configured to keep logging at the strict minimum, just enough to detect if something abnormal is happening (a bug, an error, a security breach, ...).

For more details, please click on "Technical Details".

I know an email address ending with @*.AnonymousRecipient.com, can I guess the corresponding mailbox URL (or vice-versa)?

No, you can't. Given an email address, you can't guess the mailbox URL, and vice-versa.

As you can see above, there is no relation between the email address and the mailbox URL, other than on our system and you knowing it.

This is done on purpose to ensure privacy.

Can AnonymousRecipient be abused to spam?

No. Neither the firewall nor the server setup allow for outgoing connections, so AnonymousRecipient can not be used to send email. This also means that there will be no bounces.

Is there a message or mailbox size limit?

Yes : 10 MB per email, 50 MB per mailbox.

If you need more, please send us a message to let us know, and we will maybe increase the limit.

This looks like AnonBox.Net?!

Yes, this is no coincidence. AnonymousRecipient is heavily inspired from AnonBox. Kudo to AnonBox.Net !
